2020-2021 PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED

The Pirate Wrestling Club will not be hosting a youth wrestling season during the 2020-2021 winter months. We are hopeful that we can make a return sometime in 2021. Please check our website in the new year/spring for updates. Thank you for your support during this time and appreciate your understanding.

The pirate wrestling club
is a Brooklyn Park Athletic Association (BPAA) sports program,
based out of Park Center Senior High School,
serving the youth of Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

About us: meet our staff

Justin Miller

Justin is both a Coach and Founder of the Pirate Wrestling Club. He is the Head Wrestling Coach for Park Center High School, where he has been coaching for 10 years and competed as a wrestler for 6 years. Justin also played 10 years of youth and high school football, and he is the Freshman Football Coach at PC. He works at Park Center during the school year as a Special Education Paraprofessional, and he resides in Brooklyn Center with his wife, Amanda and three sons, Kellen, Kuyper, and Keaton. 

Jamey Montgomery

Jamey wrestled competitvely for seven years and was co-captain of his High School wrestling team in Lake Zurich, IL. He also won a Junior National Freestyle Championship while living in New Zealand. He helped assist with the Pirate Wrestling Club inaugural season. He currently lives in Brooklyn Center with his wife and 3 children.

WINTER (closed)

 

  • Registration will open late October

  • Pre-School to 6th Grade (ages 4-12)

  • Starts in early Dec.

  • Ends in early March

  • Location: Park Center High School

  • Practices: 

    • Mondays and Wednesdays with some exceptions, see calendar [here]

    • 6:00 - 6:45 pm, pre-k to 2nd grade

    • 6:30 - 7:30 pm, 3rd grade to 6th grade

  • Includes Custom Club T-Shirt and Shorts

  • Folkstyle Wrestling

  • Competitive event options available

 

OTHER FEATURES

  • Orientation on TBD

  • Some of the following features may change due to COVID-19

  • High School Wrestlers volunteer as counselors at practices

  • Youth Wrestlers are Honored at a Park Center High School home wrestling match

  • Attend a University of Minnesota Gophers Wrestling Dual Meet

  • End of Season Banquet

FOR PRACTICE

  • Wear: Shirt and Shorts, or Sweatpants

  • Wrestling shoes are recommended for purchase but are not required for practice

    • Buy at Dick's Sporting Goods or Online (google search "wrestling shoes"

    • If no wrestling shoes, clean, inside-use only tennis shoes (not worn outside) should be used

  • Bring a water bottle

SPRING (closed)

  • Pre-School to 12th Grade (ages 4-18)

    • Born no later than ​8/31/2015

  • Begins in April

  • Ends in May

  • Approx. 8-9 weeks 

  • Practices days on Monday evenings

    • 6:00 - 6:45 pm preschool to 6th grade

    • 6:00 - 7:30 pm 7th to 12th grade

    • Wrestling shoes, bare feet, or indoor-use-only tennis shoes

      • Location: Park Center High School

      • Main Gymnasium (South)

  • Practice attire = Shorts or Sweats and a T-shirt

  • USA Wrestling Card not included (required for competition)
